Null hypothesis doesn't apply to this type of experiment.

Ghosts are observable by repeatable experimentation or they are not. There is no repeatable experiment that observes ghosts. Ergo they do not exist.

Keith would make a great scientist, but I doubt he'd be willing to sit through all the math.

Andrea - "What kind of crazy person would do that?"

Me in my head - "Keith, probably."
Chemda at the same time - "Keith would probably do that"

I believe in spirits but whenever anyone who is not me talks about it, I immediately do not believe in it.

Also, if anything Lucas would be haunting the bridge he jumped from. So the studio is safe

I'm working under the assumption that both the hypothesis and the null will undergo huge modifications during the planning stage. Due to them being quite broad. It would probably end up being one of those huge papers with decades worth of experimentation.

Not being able to observe something isn't indication it doesn't exist.

It's just indication that we aren't able to observe it.

Before the microscope we couldn't observe cells. They still existed.

If you have no evidence that something exists. That's what you have. There is no evidence that I'm your father.

"There is no evidence that xyz exists"

Is a different statement than

"Xyz does not exist."

I don't want to say I believe in ghosts but fuck watching a scary movie at night by myself. I can't explain that shit away. In fact, I was listening to this episode in broad daylight and I got a couple of chills, probably would've had to turn it off if it was dark.

OoOOOooohhhh scAAAArrRRyyyy!

Meaning is in the mind of the beholder (as I suspect are ghosts). The genetic encoding of non-trivial animal behaviour is poorly understood, as is the role of epigenetics in same. There is a great deal of meaning in the provided example if one chooses to meditate on it, or potentially none in this whole universe if you prefer.

Discarding trivial matters of fact (the computational entity currently known as "you" is also white matter, gut microbiome etc.), I suspect you identify both with yourself as a child and your future self as an older adult despite their being composed of largely different matter.

In general, humans assign personal identity to contiguous patterns in said matter rather than than the matter itself. Ship of Theseus style.

In the unlikely event that I ever have access to a sufficiently powerful universal quantum computer (1 MebiQubit or whatever), I will probably explore the phase space of possible human brains and try to provide them all with their own paradise, if they want that.

What would you call the created minds that correspond to minds that previously existed?

I was very surprised to find out that this was not a direct result of this week's Twitter hashtag of #ExpressiveAsians.
