There is a proverb in German that translates as:
Quote:
A cold takes 7 days to go away with medicine and one week without medicine.
A cold is usually due to a virus and you can't cure a virus with simple over the counter medicine, your body has to fight through it.

BUT you absolutely can make your life easier by making the symptoms less severe - there is no reason you need to have a headache or constantly cough and irritate your lungs further.

And I'm not saying drug yourself up with codein, just get some pain meds, cough drops and maybe a nose spray or I also highly recommend the Neti pot.
Or get hubby back in the business of putting your weed into pill/tincture form if that's your painkiller of choice - I can't imagine smoking helps with coughing.

Or you know just suffer so everybody sees how strong you are in your pain.

I think this is worth repeating.

I understand and, to a degree agree with Chemda when she says Tylenol (Acetaminophen) and Motrin/Advil (Ibuprofen) are not good for you. They both are hard on the kidneys and really should not be taken at a whim. However if you have a fever and can't rest properly they really are helpful. When I have a fever I prefer to get in bed and sweat it out, I believe the body is heating up to kill a bug not kill itself so if I can I will do that. I can't always with work, wife and kids so, I'll take Ibuprofen if needed.

As for all the other "medicines" that only treat symptoms of a cold or allergy you are better off with a sinus rinse. I think avoiding these symptom reliever and "not liking" a sinus rinse is like being a vegetarian and not liking vegetables and eating only carbs. It just seems silly and half hearted.

I can see not liking the sinus rinse - its a very weird feeling and it takes some getting used to.
But it does help enormously and its all natural.

I understand that pain meds have side effects but my kidney can absolutely take that once every few weeks.

Not NyQuil anymore

NyQuil used to have sudafed but removed it so that the NyQuil bottles could stay on the shelves and not behind the pharmacist. Some pharmacies have an equivalent to what NyQuil used to be, that is what my sister-in-law buys. The NyQuil Lewis Black raved about is no longer called NyQuil.

Sudafed works.

They make you ask for it because tweakers found an easy way to turn it into Meth.

For the most part yeah. Sometimes I take more since the doses are based on average heighted and weighted men and I am a Grown Ass Woman. For things like allergy pills I take the recommended doses and amounts. Sometimes I just chug a mouthful of dayquil before going to work because I know I won't have access to it till I get back. Sometimes I feel like a nut.
