And in case anyone thinks I'm cherry picking, here's the full text:
"According to sheriff's deputies, five pit bull mix puppies were taken from the rapper's home by an animal control unit and will be taken to to a jail where they will be cared for by female inmates. In August, deputies raided DMX's home and seized 12 pit bulls and pit bull mixes after receiving a report that the animals were being abused. No arrests were made at the time; authorities said that some of the dogs had apparently not been fed or watered but that there was no evidence of dogfighting. The carcasses of three dogs were found partially buried on the property in August, and one of the dogs may have been burned, the sheriff's office said. "A guy like this DMX character, with all his money and fame, has no excuse for not providing proper care for his animals," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Friday. In August, the rapper's lawyer, Murray Richman, said his client had been on tour and had a caretaker was watching his dogs. He said the caretaker had fed and watered the dogs but not brought them in from Arizona's summer heat." He said DMX was upset about the treatment of the dogs, which he sometimes features in his music videos.

In that *particular* terribly shitty event in which animals were treated like shit, burned and buried, yes he was not arrested. However in the other two events in which he was charged with animal cruelty and dogfighting and terrible shitty treatment of animals, he was arrested and pled guilty and paid fines and did ads for the ASPCA.
I hate that you are defending him, just him. I know that people of any color other than white are unjustly and terribly shittily treated by the justice system. I know that prisons are full of black men becuase of institutionalized racism. I know that drugs are fucking hell and that addiction is terrible and that there is no treatment in the penal system. When I look at this guys "legal issue list" I actually pass by all the drugs like "meh" everyone's got their shit and some much worse than others. But the animal shit hits a chord for me (laughably having a kid I suppose I should also care about the total avoidance of paying $400k in child support but whatever) because animals don't get a choice when it comes to who they live with and so many shitty people get to just starve and punish them ruthlessly without much consequence. Oh hey turns out it's not about DMX. Carry on. |

I'm defending him because he is being accused of being a violent criminal who fights dogs. None of which has been proven.
The article you just posted states the exact thing I said in my first post. He plead guilty to animal cruelty charges because his caretaker neglected his dogs while he was on tour. (the last paragraph) The 1999 animal cruelty arrest was because puppies were being kept in crates that are too small causing a bend in their back. Terrible. But not violent. We don't live in a world where people like DMX just get away with being violent unnoticed and unpunished. He would have been shunned and imprisoned like Michael Vick who had to go to both federal (got two years) and state court (got three years). Not just a fine. The whole thing w the caretaker sounds like a flat out lie in light of there being three separate incidents, two which resulted in arrest. Could I buy it if it was once? Sure maybe. Can anyone prove it was a lie? Guess not. Is it telling that he "took responsibility?" It is to me. Is it fucking weird that a millionaire would hire someone to care for multiple animals who clearly isn't capable of keeping them off the brink of non-existence? Yes. Also how is keeping puppies in cages TOO SMALL FOR PUPPIES not violent? If that's confusing, then we absolutely do live in that world. |

Here is my belief on the animal cruelty arrests: Turns out the1999 and 2002 arrest are the same. The incident happened in 1999 but he didn't get the plea deal til 2002. Both Wikipedia sited sources detail the same event. He probably bought the crates when they were small and didn't size up the way he was supposed to. Terrible for the dog's spine. Violence? Idk, that requires some reworking of the definition of the word. I think more like neglect. Apparently he had been high on crack for a week so that might have something to do with it. He plead guilty and did animal cruelty PSAs. The 2008 incident. I honestly think he probably paid a cousin or a homeboy to come over and pet sit or something while he was away. Person wasn't responsible. Probably also an addict. He held himself accountable cause they are his dogs and turning himself in and taking responsibility seems to be a thing he does when he isn't too high to move. Both you and him are acting in ways which are typical for yourselves. Neither are ideal and somewhat disappointing, but both predictable and expected. |
