I recently hooked up with a guy that I met at a leather bar/dungeon. From the moment we were in his car making out, he put MY hand at His neck, showing me to apply pressure. Edit two: Oh this is more on topic: around the time I was in middle school my dad had porn videos in his bedroom closet, which I never questioned where they came from I just watched them. In regards to the Johnny Depp/Amber heard situation-this hits very close to home for me-

I have a friend whose husband punched her so
Hard that he broke both sides of her jaw, with one side poking through her mouth.

We have hung out with the both of them. We really likes him because he was funny, seemed to really love my friend, be a devoted father and just in general be a lot of fun to be around.

My friend was always complaining about him. He had cheated on her a few years ago and after a year's separation, they got back together. She still had lots of resentment towards him and seemed to fly off the handle at him all the time.

The day of the incident, she was on a rant and so angry that we felt bad for the guy. We were telling her it wasn't fair how she was treating him and how she needed to cut ties if she was that angry.

We had no idea that he had choked her before. We did not know that he physically prevented her from leaving the house on previous occasions, even yanking her by her hair back into the house. We did not know about the emotional manipulations he regularly used.

He had all of us so fooled that when she texted "help" to us and we ran over to
See her holding her jaw, we briefly thought that she might have bit her cheek on purpose. That motherfucker was so cold-he only cared about getting his side of the story out, only cared about the chair she broke trying to get away from him. Said he only slapped her after she hit him and that he is a pretty wirey guy and there is no way he could have hurt her that bad.

We spent almost 30 hours in two different ERs that night while she got her broken jaw in three places wired shut for the next 6 weeks.

He had us fooled. I'm a fucking social worker on the domestic violence committee. He had me fooled. I still feel like such a cunting asshole for ever doubting her.

Point is, like Chemda said, it is entirely possible for you to be friends with someone who never abuses you but abuses their partner. We need to get away from this not believing the victim path.
