Micah is in denial, so he needs AA more, Keith his perfectly ok with his drinking, the only hassle he gets is when other people point it out (and maybe not even in that case).
Just out of curiosity: how does the whole intervention/AA thing work in the States? Our version of the AA is some sort of compulsory rehab that they force you to do when you cause big trouble under the influence. Individual choice is not a big part of it. (Basically that's how it happened to me and a lot of people i had to hang out with when i had a drinking problem). But your system seems to work better. |

Byron Allen
Hearing the latest show about people who never indulge...
I was listening to an interview with Byron Allen; where he disclosed that he has never smoked, taken a single drink or done any drugs. He sounded like one of those weirdo johova witnesses...with the "blessings this and blessings that" I think I could never hang, trust or like a person like that. Chemda, I'm also one of those people who doesn't drink because she doesn't like the taste. Over the years I've had friends try "fixing" my problem by offering me various kinds of drinks to try, but alcohol just leaves an odd burning aftertaste in my throat that I don't like. I'd rather just have a soda, or coffee. Mmmmmm, coffee....
I think one reason drinkers "don't trust" non-drinkers is because they think we're secretly judging them for drinking. But I really couldn't care less if someone drinks. The only time it's a problem for me is if the person starts to get violent or creepy when he's drunk. Then I just get the hell away from him. But it's funny because every time someone asks me why I don't drink and I say I just don't like the taste, about 90% of the time their answer to that is, "Well after three drinks you don't mind the taste anymore!" Sorry, if I have to force it down until I'm numb, then how am I enjoying this again? Being in Wisconsin, the number one drunk driving state in the country, there's a definite benefit to being the sober driver in your group. Lots of free food and soda.

In that case you're right. Generally speaking i'd say most drinkers do not trust the ultra-sober people who want to get them sober. I hated those. Tolerant and funny non drinkers like Chemda are a blast to have around. They do not judge you, thery party like crazies and eventually they can drive you home... PS: Micah's Dry Humour + Chemda Super Honesty + Keith's Sarcasm + Anything by Jesse = Comedy Gold |
