Some Americans do say holiday, don't they? What about Ms. Madonna Louise Ciccone's smash hit, "Holiday"? It came out in 1983, I believe -- well before she became an anglophile and moved to London.

And finally to qualifiy you gotta greet all your friends by saying: "yes bled" can be translated to mean "yes brother" and if u call a girl "peng" you're saying that she's hot. and finally not a well known fact, the word chav is an acronym Council House And Violent. (a council house/flat is basically free accomodation provided by the council to those that cannot afford to live in their own home)

I've never heard an American say "holiday" rather than saying "vacation." Over here, "holiday" refers to a particular day of religious or social significance (Christmas, Memorial Day, etc). I just finished watching The Office (BBC version) and have to say I do love the slang. "Cheeky" has to be my favorite new thing to say to people. Yes, I'm a dork. The other important thing that I learned from The Office is that apparently "fanny" means pussy over there. To Americans it's a very innocuous and tame word for "butt."

Oh, and buying in bulk: my mother goes to the butcher and buys A COW. She literally buys an entire cow cut in different types of steaks, some of it ground, etc and then stores it in the basement freezer. For the past several years every time I go over there to visit I come home with a couple pounds of frozen hamburger. It was really fun the time that their twenty year old freezer died and literally bled cow juice all across the basement floor. That's covered under homeowner's insurance, did you know that?
