Can the poll be “ did you know how to spell etcetera before you saw the title?” Because I did not. Like not at all close.

I also sometimes feel guilty because I’m mostly good.
Work ist harder now, but it’s possible and it’s going fine, I’m getting fully paid, so I just don’t complain and am grateful.
Normally I travel a lot and see plenty of people. I have my favorite lunch places and I often go for a swim after work. I enjoy my job.
Now it’s very different.
Everytime I want to complain because I’m on the phone all day sitting at my dining room table staring at the wall, I remember that this is a quite good situation compared to what other people have to go through.

We have our racists here for sure, we don’t live in paradise, but what I see from the US is an other dimension of injustice and violence.

Carole Baskin was awarded Tiger King’s zoo. If he feels like he’s losing steam, and about to die, I believe him. Can you imagine that happening after this crazy year we’d had, after enjoying that shitshow in living rooms across the world. It would feel so dirty.

He tried to have her killed and is in jail because of it.
That’s not great.

We had 159 POCs die in police custody since 1990, most of them never properly investigated or anybody punished for it. One specifically horrendous case the police pretended Oury Jalloh set himself on fire while bound hands and feet To a bed and police was acquitted of any wrong doing.

I understand the impulse but reacting with 'oh we are doing ok compared to a country that is fully out of control' is most definitely not the best take here because that makes it look like we should not be worried when there is plenty wrong here too.

And still it's true.
But of course we have problems here too and racism is a big problem.
It's a little bit different than in America, we dont have such a big black community here, but other groups who face racism every day.
I know in my family I have maybe 2 or 3 problematic people I call out on the regular.

Oh and its complicated.
Being born in Poland I faced lots of xenophobia in my early days here AND my polish family side is problematic because Poland is very white and catholic and they never had to deal with other cultures.
