Whatever movement you are taking part in, if it relies on a mass movement for change i don't think you should blow of good faith questions from people. Not that you need to personally educate every person. Two times a week I (and other peope in my political party) spend an hour out in the streets and on peoples doorstep (less of this in corona-times) talking with the public about different issues. Climate, cuts in social services, elderly care schooling, workers protection, sekular issues, sexual harassment, socialism, antisemitism and so on.

A lot of them are life and death issues - some even existensial questions like climate change. A lot of people don't care whatever the issue is. People that ask questions in good faith we take the time with and people that ask questions in bad faith we try not to engage with unless we want to get our perspective out to a third party and convince them. Bad faith people steal time and energy. When people just recenly came to be interested in politics and are trying to learn more or test the questions they have been thinking of, I don't turn them away or dismiss them.

Right now there is a window of opportunity to change more peoples mind. I don't think you have to educate everyone or even try to. But if you have the energy try to direct them on to other people or media. When it comes to learning I first go to People or institutions I trust and getting recomendations from them.

The thing with questions is, that you're putting the emotional labour onto someone who is already dealing with it on an emotional level (if you're asking a black person about BLM). If you're asking a white person in good faith, then fair enough because they haven't had to live through it. But also, as was said on the show, you have all the info in the world at your finger tips. A lot of the influences I follow on Instagram have been talking about this stuff, so I've learned a lot through them, as well as been directed to different resources so I can learn for myself (like books, podcasts, other influences in the community). And that helps benefit black producers too by giving them more sales, downloads, clicks or whatever.

And Karen McMuffin was nuts. Like, what? I can't even understand it. Has she never been anywhere that she can't see them making her food???

My stomach started churning when the crying started.

Yeah I guess i would feel weird asking just any black person about BLM. The people I would ask, if I wanted to know more, is the people organizing or going to protests and events. But just having the information available isn't enough and will never be. Changing opinions about important stuff is painful because of how it affects your relations with others. Almost all of us has had a close relationship change because of politics or ideology and it hurts. Most people need more than just the facts.

my in-laws and i are in the wedding biz. they are mos def still happening. i am still booking elopements and signing licenses without ceremonies for people who are canceling their event, but still need the paperwork for one reason or another. for sure i’m not doing full ceremonies this summer. the venue they own is quiet as hell, but at least the grass looks good and isn’t a ground zero for disease.

I had to take a course in racial sensitivity in college. The instructors would give some examples of a situation and we had to say howd we'd respond. One situation was use of the N word. One blond white little 19 year old got really upset. Not crying but her voice was wavering and she was clearly very affected. "I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOME PEOPLE GET TO SAY IT AND SOME PEOPLE ARE CALLED EVIL WHEN THEY DO?"

the situation was different but McMuffin Karen reminded me alot of that. Unstable. Completely unrealistic level of emotional reaction to something that has nothing to do with her and making it into a personal attack in order to gain sympathy. But also, a huge bitch missing the forest for the trees. McMuffin Karen sounded like a 15 year old "I waited and waited and waited and waited..." so fucking dramatic. She needs to have her gun taken away from. People don't think she's a hero and now she's paranoid and breaking down in a parking lot ON CAMERA?

fire her ass

Similar but not the same-in one of my social work classes this idiot was talking about the Koran and how sacred it was to certain people “why would you make something so important that if I touch it it ruins everything for you? Why put that kind of pressure on me?” This was an advanced class and as social workers we are supposed to be culturally competent and not say dumb shit like that.

In regards to the Officer crying about her egg mcmuffin-take all of her weapons away and fire her holy shit. Again similar but not the same-I’m a home care social worker who is a type 1 diabetic. You know what I do to make sure I eat even when I’m driving all over the place from house to house? Pack a fucking cooler full of snacks and drinks in case I don’t have time to stop to get food. Lunchables are great quick snacks that can be eaten while on the run. Energy and cereal bars exist...I mean seriously...
