I’m more trying to figure out Apia. We all are.

I think between her age and her insinuating at horrible experiences she’s had as a trans person, and the transgressions she’s faced by the male gender, the guest kinda felt threatened by you, perhaps by default. It sucks, but there’s probably nothing you could’ve done to help the situation.

On the other hand, she was completely at peace with Chemda, no matter her questions, bc she didn’t feel threatened by her, especially after she opened up about having been married to a trans person. It’s the reason she chastised you in the follow-up letter. In her mind, she stashed you in the corner with the males who had jeered about her genitalia in the past.

For the record, I dont think you were transphobic. I think she was hostile to that question coming from you due to her own trauma, which is for her to work through, and what ultimately made this one a fail. She shouldn’t have agreed to be on a talk show.

It’s like me getting tired of ppl asking me where I’m from or what I am, bc they don’t immediately know what they’re looking at due to my being mixed. I can get angry about the nature of my identity or I can embrace that those questions will come; and oftentimes from people who are just plain curious. Unfortunately, for trans folk, their identity is wrapped up in sex change operations and gender identity, so that’s what people will ask about, which admittedly I can imagine would suck after the nth time.
