What joke about a disease?
It was clearly a joke about Jada "I was just in Matrix 4, which, like GI Jane, laid a huge turd at the box office" Pinkett-Smith's career. She's hot AF with the buzzcut. There's no joke there. The idea it was a shot at her looks or "disease" or whatever is goofy AF. |

i was bothered Chris’s joke was 1) tactless and 2) so dated. he could have compared her to the Dora Milaje in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. thrown out a hearty “Wakanda Forever” RIP Chadwick Boseman and moved it along. there, i fixed it.

Why not reference the Black Panther sequel? Because Black Panther made $$$. Rock was leaning hard on that classic, typical, traditional, well-worn roast trope - the career diss.
When selecting one's Gal-With-A-Buzzcut movie reference, one is spoiled for choice. You got your MEGAHIT Black Panther with the Dora Milaje, of course. You also got your Natalie Portman in the HIT movie V for Vendetta. You got your Sigourney Weaver in the HIT movie Alien 3. You got your Charlize Theron in the HIT movie Fury Road. You got your Karen Gillen and Tilda Swinton in other MEGAHIT Marvel movies. The list, as they say, goes on ... So why - instead of any of those respected HIT movies, many featuring respected, Oscar-nominated and/or Oscar-winning actresses - would professional megacomedian Chris Rock choose GI Jane, a reference that nobody under 38 will even know about and which starred an actress who was not only never even nominated for an Oscar but who won TWO Golden Raspberries? Because Rock is going for a career diss and GI Jane was a MEGGGGAFLOPPPPPP whose sequel would be DTV at best. And that's even before you factor in that Chris Rock already has form when it comes to roasting Jada over her career (the whole "her boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rhianna's panties" thing). Hacky? Yep. Ableist? Doubt it bro. |

whether or not he knew he was being ableist, he was. guys, losing all your hair is hella traumatic. our dear Bianca has let us in some on what that experience is like. that he used it as a vehicle to diss her career is a garbage move.
did Chris deserve a dressing down maybe somewhere private at the after party? sure. could Will have used his mic time to clap back? yeah. use your words, little babyfucks. |
