Similar story

I got totally weirded out by Michael's candy store story. So much so that I turned it off and haven't finished listening yet.

When I was twelve or thirteen, I was hanging out in the street with a friend of mine and this guy came up and started talking to us. He told us that he and some friends were starting up a "mountaineering group" and that he was looking for boys our age that might want to join. He made it sound interesting because he told us that we would do so much more than the boy scouts because they had rappelling gear and cool camping stuff and that they would probably teach us how to shoot weapons. I remember him asking me if I thought it would be cool to do that. What twelve year-old wouldn't?

He hung out with us for a couple of hours and we agreed to meet the next week and we'd bring some more friends as well. So I go home and tell my mother about all this cool shit and she's like "Well, I'd have to meet this guy" and whatnot. My parents had a pharmacy right in the middle of town, across from where we had agreed to meet the guy so I told her that I'd bring him in. Everything was kosher up to this point.

The next week I get out of school and race down into town to see if the guy was there. He didn't show. I was fucking disappointed because I was all pumped up about all the cool shit. Bummer. Never heard from him again.

About two or three weeks later I got ahold of a copy of the local newspaper. Right on the front page was a story about how the cops had busted a pedophile ring in the next town over that was piddling kids under the cover of a "mountaineering group". Motherfuckers.

Turns out the old lady was smarter than I thought.

I think the story version we heard might have just been repression.

Keith's applause at the very end were the only thing that made listening to those meeting rants worth it.

Does Michael run a company NOW? or did he run a company during a boom and made money?

It is easy to run one in a boom (read Democratic) period. Not so easy during a recession (read Republican) period.

Taking advice from a guy who is Not working is like taking parenting advice from someone without kids.

Glad to hear SoCal gave KATG some good love, and a great show.

I think the companies and employees getting laid off might of noticed.

Just because they raise the national debt and rewrite the rules doesn't mean there isn't one.

According to google he ran a company called mailbits.com which did direct email advertising, and cashed out during the dot com boom.

I disagree with some of you guys... this was a most enjoyable episode...

Michael is a real cluely guy.. sometimes he may take a little too long to get to the point for a podcast or an audience with a 5 second attention span... but he knows a bit.... and while i have no intention of ever doing a podcast or anything like that... but it's cool to hear info..

well done guys.. have fun in California..
