Patrice's rant was soo hilarious I made an mp3 of just it. With a long enough intro and outro to allow people who don't listen to appreciate her celeb-gossip role on the podcast.

I had one problem with this episode. I though it was excellent, for the most part, and Patrice was at the top of her game, but the thing that bugged me was the dismissive mention of DJ Quad and that whole issue.
I know you guys know what's going on with that; it's one of the busiest Show Talk threads, and to mention DJ Quad, dismiss the situation as "seven people on a couch all wanting 50%," and insinuate that, "of course, Quad's the asshole because we know we're right," is disrespectful to both DJ Quad and the fans. As far as I could tell (and of course I can't know the whole story) DJ Quad felt legitimately affronted by the move and the short notice he was given, coupled with the insinuations against his character on the show ("Of course the HUAR site is down!"), and he responded with a thorough and seemingly heartfelt response read and sympathized with by many fans. No mention is made on the show of this response (not necessarily a surprise, not all forums things get read) or of the support DJ Quad has received from several fans. There is a definite tension on the forums waiting to be resolved, and to simply ignore it and sling unsubtle jabs at a man who has been a big part of the show for a long time seems disrespectful. Either tell the whole story or move past it. When you insult people on the show and allow them no chance to rebut you're just using your power as a means to distance yourself from any detractors (Dane Cook's claim to fame). Finally, I'm not "offended" by this, nor have I been by the racism, homophobia, anti-semitism, or other biases used to discredit negative comments. I'm still a fan, I'll continue buying shit from the store, and I'll keep enjoying the show. I'm just getting worried about the show's future. Distancing people who've helped along the way and then discrediting them in front of an international audience does not bode well for a show that thrives on fan support. How many listeners will not write Rachael Ray this week because they feel bad for DJ Quad? If the show starts distancing fans who will boost the Alexa rating? How will we beat Mugglecast if people feel they are not appreciated. I love the show guys, and I hope I inspire a hateful tirade, because that makes good radio.

Cubby has a point... there's a risk here of alienating your fans.
Seeing one of our own cast aside like that makes us fearful for the future of the show, but it's not just the DJQ thing. When I first started listening to KATG, I felt a part of the show, you let us in to your lives. Now there seem to be more and more secrets as the business side of things takes over. Inevitable maybe, but still sad as the distance between you and the listeners increases. The show's still hilariously funny most of the time, but the sense of community and empathy with the hosts is disappearing. Originally I could relate to the shitty jobs you have to do to pay the rent. But sleeping most of the time, staying in the house, except to get free meals (I'm simplifying, I know you work hard at the show), I don't relate to as much, and it's not as good a radio show. The above, coupled with the once-a-show, don't miss them out "Announcements", makes me feel as though the show has gone from "this is our life" to "this is our business" - which makes it less interesting for us. I love the show. |

"Crybaby always gets the sympathy"
That and the discussion was cute Keith. You insinuated that I in some way wanted to get rich off the show? When did I EVER even insinuate that? That never even crossed my mind. I gave you literally tens of thousands of dollars worth of hosting, services, and development. I didn't want a penny of that back and you know it. What you also know is that when you could afford the services I was donating that you'd pay for them from that point forward, like any other customer does. Obviously you can now since you're paying competition, whether it's you personally or your new "partner".. Where does that leave all the work I put into KATG? Don't you even see the comments from very long-term fans? Remember what it felt like when John Petrie stole from you? The stuff like CDs can always be replaced, but stuff like the book you were writing that you put so much work into is gone. When you mentioned all that over and over, was that being a crybaby? You can spin this, demean it, and make jokes about it all ya want. You guys screwed up, and everybody here that knows what I did behind the scenes for free knows you did too. I would advise you to take care of the people that take care of you in the future. This all sounds like I'm really pissed off. I'm not. I am really disappointed, hurt, and confused that you'd pull this though. Was Windows worth it? I just don't get it one bit. That's all. I'm done talking about this. |
