RE: The pool kid story. Chuck "Fight Club" Palahniuk wrote a seriously disturbing story about this kind of thing that if you might enjoy if you have a strong stomach:

Flooding...

Flooding? Chemda thinks they're flooding in NY... screw that.

We're on our 25th day in a row that it has rained... the dam that holds all the water for the whole entire area of North Texas is (or was as of last night) 3 inches from going over the spillway.

We've had I believe around 10 people die due to the floods and many left homeless. It's so weird for this area too....

And, to show you how tiny our town is... The local news set up cameras so you can watch the spillway go over sometime today live through their website. How hick is that? There's nothing going on in this one-horse town so we've got to sit in front of our computers watching a spillway go over for the first time in 17 years.

Whoo!

I've gotta agree with Michael on this one. I used to be a priest, and I would touch kids like there was no tomorrow. But the second it became a major problem I stopped, so I'm not a scumbag. I even got the kids to check boxes, if that's not legit I don't know what is.

What takes it over the top on the ridiculous scale is the insert shot close up of the edge...

I'm not kidding you when I say that there have been people actually illegally camping there just to watch some water go over a spillway... They've had the highway closed for a week now and there are cops which have to be stationed out there 24/7 directing traffic because people are driving from all over just to see this.

Is it really that exciting?

I think not.

Bird watching, people watching, and now...lake watching? Of all the things to look at, I'm pretty sure watching a lake flood isn't my top priority.
