I just don't find the dialogue to be as sharp or as poetic as it was on Deadwood, and the characters are all boring to me except for Al Bundy and the drug dealer (who was on Deadwood). I've already stopped watching it.

5 was slow, 6 picked up the pace 7 and 8 are on torrent at about 80%

the location would have avoided the need for the surfer family dynamics. and it would have kept the Mom from Yelling at everyone for their fuck ups.

the poetic dialog happens just not as often

Hell, Shakespeare has loads of sexual innuendo in his plays, we just don't ordinarily notice it because we don't know all the slang from England 400 years ago. Poetry can be filthy, no problem.
