Van Halen's first tour was the first arena show I ever saw - Eddie and Dave were incredible. Eddie made those stupid faces BUT he was REALLY playing his heart out.
But the rumours are true - VH has jumped the shark. Re: backing tracks during live show - check out this humongous screw up at beginning of the current tour. First video @ 0:54 seconds mark - Keyboard intro to 'Jump' goes horribly wrong and not even Eddie can make it better. He actually seems to ignore the whole deal and play the worst version of this song I've ever heard. Check his solo out??!! (and someone tell Roth to drop the drum major act plz) " I can’t tell which is funnier, this long-hated cheesebag-anthem turned into a much more interesting, atonal mess in front of thousands of paying customers or the hilarious soldiering on of the Van Halens as they look at each other from inside the trainwreck. Eddie tries to transpose on the fly and match the wildly fucked up keyboards but the great thing there is the difference in pitch is non-musical - about 1.5 semitones sharp. So there’s no frets he can choose to fix the problem! So what happens when you’re Van Halen, the last song in your set list is the million-seller “Jump” with its synthesizer-keyboard opening…and the recording you’re using to play back the synth is accidentally run at 48K instead of 44.1K? What happens could be this (recorded in Greensboro, NC four days ago):" http://warmowski.wordpress.com/2007/...jump-in-pitch/ <EDIT> and for comparison here is the same tour a few nights later in Toronto - Eddies 'chainsaw buzz' guitar is more or less in tune with the keyboards (or vice versa technically) But this is not the Eddie I remember. Ouch. Listen to the slop in the ending. <hides head in shame> and I never heard all this stuff either? poor Mikeys pic was removed from albums etc. He shows some real class though. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdail...-the-internet/ This latest tour is a total sham. And I WANTED to believe... My original post - http://www.keithandthegirl.com/forum...ead.php?t=8034 Last edited by Tech007; 01-08-2008 at 07:56 AM. |

"I have hope and faith, and that’s more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque." I've heard David Lee Roth make this same fuckin' joke in at least 3 interviews. Not sure if anyone else is familiar with and/or has noticed, but it drives me insane. Somebody throw a brother some new material... |
