759: Country Dough Face

I grew up in a small community and there is definately some level of inbreeding going on. 90% of the population share about 8 last names.

I went to high school in the next town over that was founded by a family with 7 sons, and they have a festival every year where you put a ribbon on your house for which son you are a decendant of.

There was a house that always had 2 ribbons.

I am adopted, so I felt comfortable dating. But had I not been, I would have went through that stage of my life scared to death.

Around 10 years ago, Canadians LOVED when I paid in American dollars for a product. I would be able to haggle and pay a lower price if I promised to pay in American dollars. I am sure with the exchange rate this has changed.

I was recently in a member of the Commonwealth of Nations which has its own currency ( the Eastern Caribbean Dollar , XCD) and there were signs on business requesting that they would prefer you to pay in AMERICAN dollars.


So it isn't insulting to ALL countries as you imply. And it wasn't insulting to ALL canadians as recently as a decade ago. Or maybe it was insulting, but they are willing to be insulted as long as you gave them enough American dollars, I dunno.

I actually did some writing on this topic when I was working on my masters (in a small college town in SC). You guys are both 1/2 right. It's a cycle, it seems like Matt is dismayed by what has happened to his hometown, which is perfectly normal. Alot of those nearly deserted rural towns are now turning into baby boomer retirement communities and the "country folk" are getting introduced to people with more world-wise views.

Depends on the business. In the past when dealing with American clients in graphic design I had them pay me in USD, now it doesn't matter.

When I worked as a short order cook though it was super annoying to have American tourists expect us to take their money. We were right beside a bank, so they could either get a shit exchange rate from us, or use the bank to exchange the money. Most were too lazy to go to the bank.

Keith did it for shock value, but yeah it disturbs me too. As I get older i am becoming more and more buddhist where all life deserves to live. I even lived with three mice for a couple years because I was like Who the fuck am i to decide whether they live or die? i know it's crazy ( i eventully glue trapped them cuz i got so pissed)

The things with pests, I will be lenient and let them out unless they are creating havoc on my life....so perfectly understandable that you got pissed in this situation. But throughout the show, both of them sounded like they didn't care about killing a living being and thought it just simply fun.
