When I worked at a bar, I was told that the beer glass rinser was there to
a) rinse out any soapy crap that the actual glass washer would leave behind
b) cool down the glass so you get a nice cold beer.

We have them in Canada, and we take our beer pretty seriously here. And no, I never cried at work during the 6 years I worked in the restaurant industry. But I'm Chinese, and getting yelled at by random customers and Sri Lankan cooks is nowhere near as scary as getting yelled at by my mom.
