You are the one being malicious.

But Keith and Chemda aren't in this world. They don't know the "rules."

And wouldn't it be more appropriate to use the non-gender specific pronouns Sie and hir. Instead of him and her. That would make the most sense.

So, and this is an honest question, when I use (s)he ... is that appropriate, or offensive?

In reference to who?

The pregnant man and Teddy?

Yes, to them, it would be offensive. They do identify as men.

*Edit: Although, if they were smart, they wouldn't be OFFENDED. They should just gently point you in the right direction.

In reference to me?

I would be offended too.

ok, so I'm totally ignorant (and apparently far too lazy to do what I'm sure would amount to a simple Google search) but I've never heard of "sie" and "hir" (well - "sie" I have, but not in English) so wtf do they mean? And, if they're not gender specific - why are there two of them?

Yes, Marina, when people ask me what PsychoTeddy's deal is, I should say, "He's a guy that wants a penis. Hopefully he'll have the money for it soon."

"What? He lost the penis in an accident?"

"No, he has a vagina now."

"You mean figuratively, like he's a pussy?"

"No, I mean... Wow... If only there was a simple pronoun I could use to clear all this up..."

Look here:

Gender-Neutral Pronouns.

*Edit: But if we can get MEH in the dictionary...

No gender-nutral people are envolved in this convo to my knowledge so Sie/Hir Zim/Ze aren't necessary. Was that to prove your point that it can get confusing with pronouns? You half got me except that it seems like you call a person a man when he says he's a man.

On the other hand, people have accidently called me sir and I'm never upset, but I am upset for psychoteddy. I concede that its not as significant in the straight community, but its still disrespectful.

ugh. Reading that felt like homework. It'll never catch on. Besides "sie" would probably end up defaulting to "she" and "hir" to him. And - that doesn't answer my second question - if it's gender neutral - why two words?? Wouldn't one word do to cover everyone?
