New Zealand is not an immigrant-friendly country. It is very hard to get into NZ - you need a lot of money (NZ$1million) or be a doctor, nurse, or other profession we want.

Almost all western countries are VERY hard to emigrate to.

I understand your point about illegal immigration, but it makes me when Keith keeps saying that people should just leave a country and go elsewhere if they don't like it. The world simply does not work that way.

While I have no idea what the legalities are, I know that the Polish community in this area sponsors people (providing a job and housing), they work at whatever entity hired them, learn English, and after whatever period of time, move on their merry little ways- or in some cases, stay with that employer. There isn't a legally binding contract that makes it indentured servitude - so there is a risk assumed by both parties, but it does seem to work here. Are you thinking something like that?

It probably depends on what the definition of awesome is. It might be a relative term.

Coming from West Texas (Insert dumb hick comment here), and having a step dad that was a cop i know a little about how our hospital treated illegals.

I don't know if the law has been changed. But, we had a standing law that if a person was in serious need of medical treatment, they couldn't legally be turned away. So, if anyone needed an appendix removed, they could pretty much walk right in and get it done. Drop a fake or common name, and Slit/staple/see ya!

So, compared to the health care system that the illegal might be leaving behind, our system is pretty AWESOME.

I read a story in the news the other day about a Mexican illegal immigrant in the United States that went on to become a world class surgeon. Just because you're in a place illegally doesn't mean you're fucked. It's not up to other people whether or not you succeed, it's up to you.

THIS is why i believe in Reincarnation. How is it that Spooky, and Newsy and I are so blessed to be born and raised in the last bastion of freedom on opportunity? While at the same time, some poor bastard kid in Africa is born face first into a steaming pile of shit?

The only way this is fair is if we ALL get to be born into the shit. This life, or next, or our last one.
