I agree with Jesse about how [American] Football Fans are the worst, especially when they take shit too far. And I'm sad to say that some of my friends fall into this category — a friend of mine bought a minibus just so he could go to all the Rutgers football games and tailgate from 8am. And he never played Football in this life.

And I believe that the phrase "under God" was added to the pledge of allegiance during the height of McCarthyism as an answer to the atheist doctrine of Communism. The sentiment wasn't Christian, per se, but of faith in general. We believe in God, that's extra non-communist.

I thought this was common knowledge.

You guys do realize that the people that founded this country left their homeland because they were being religiously oppressed, right? And yet, they were okay with putting things about God on their money, their important documents, etc. So obviously the point of separation of church and state was not OH SHIT NO MENTIONS OF RELIGION ANYWHERE IN THE GOVERNMENT NEVER EVER!!!

The point was to keep people from being oppressed because of their religion. Forcing people to never, ever mention God or religion in relation to the government kind of IS oppressing. If a politician is Christian, they should be allowed to express it. If a politician is atheist or Buddhist or whatever the hell else, they should be allowed to express it. I think it's ridiculous to say that God should never be mentioned anywhere near the government by those who believe in him. Now that's some oppressive bullshit right there.

Obviously we don't want the church running the government, and that's not even remotely the case here. But you voted for Obama knowing that he believed in God, and now you get to occassionally see that played out. If you don't want any God in your government, then stop voting for people who believe in him.

(By the way, most of the founding fathers were not Christians in the classical sense, but Deists, who believed that a higher power created the world and then stepped out of the way to let the laws of science run their course)

Nevermind.

I briefly saw it before I accidently deleted it whilst deleting other spam. So, yeah.

What was with that dig at NLO? They don't have as big of a community or as many subscribers, but don't act like they're some sort of 'Dawn & Drew'-esque, shitty show just because they decided not to do the cruise. Meet-ups are part of your show and heavily advertised, they're neither of those things with NLO.

Did you ever listen to their "Rebuttal" episode, or are you still mad about them shutting off your Talktrap to "sabotage" you? Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of both your shows, and at some times a bigger fan of yours, but even I have to say it's ridiculous to still hold a grudge over something like that.

Jesse gives "Tradition" as a (the only) reason to not follow the Constitution?

Tradition is a ridiculous reason.

Jesse: "If George Washington had clowns, then yeah, there'd be clowns."

...so if George Washington (and the guy who swore him in, and all Presidents until the late 1800s) did not append "God" to his oath, then by Jesse's argument, neither should have Obama. Well, George Washington did not add "So help me God." to the official (written verbatim in the Constitution) Oath of Office.

Dispatches from the Culture Wars: Did GW Say SHMG?

...and neither did any of the Presidents who followed, for at least 100 years.

And the founding fathers didn't include anything about God "keeping us honest" in any official founding documents. The Declaration of Independence says nothing about State invoking church. The ruling documents (Constitution with the Bill of Rights) does -- specifically, it says DON'T.

Jesse: "We keep it [the ceremony] the same for a reason!"

And the reason is ... ?

Ack. Love the show. Love Jesse. I gotta go back to lurking.

internnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnigga.

I realize no one is mentioning this but does anyone like the newish intern?

Personally, I don't understand how he fits in with KATG. It seems to me that he is ....

a) NOT funny
b) clearly homophobic (and not in a funny/ironic/sarcastic way)
c) too sensitive, like a little teenage girl.
d) scared of Keith

Sorry Mike ... bring back Potatoe!
