Okay, all the other black guys here are not really helping, so I will speak up. I think it is all how you grow up. My dad is a cheap bastard but, he will not hesitate to tip. I saw him tip as I was growing up therefore, I have never not tipped. I even tip the carhops at Sonic's. Now, if you ask me why my dad was a good tipper, I do not have an answer. I think that any black person that does not feel obligated to tip is really not living in reality. If you do not have enough money to tip, then you should not go out for dinner, lunch etc.

Okay, seriously. Should you carry your own bags up to your room if you don't have enough cash to tip a bellhop? Also, does the same apply to pizza delivery guys? Should I tip the guy at footlocker that brings me my shoes? And if it's just a wage thing, then does this obligation extend to waiters in states that do get paid a proper hourly wage? Does this apply to waiters that are getting paid more than I am? What are the rules of etiquette here? It's all nonsense. Don't be a jerk, tip when you can, but ignore anyone who tells you that you have to. I care so little what people think, I'm not even going to remind everyone that despite everything I've said, I do actually tip, and feel bad when I end up not doing so. How about this, next time I'm low on funds, I'm going to immediately ask that someone hand me a menu when I come in. I'll write down my order on a piece of paper, send it over to the kitchen, and have one of the cooks call me when it's ready and I'll come get it. That way I can pay for what I came out to dinner for. "dinner". Last edited by Amravanti; 02-23-2009 at 08:10 PM. |

This poll is rigged. Eatspaste is voting with all his aliases to throw off the numbers.

I direct a large part of my earnings to my savings account, which I don't touch unless I'm using it for a major development in my life, and another part to helping my mother out financially, and I don't consider those part of my paycheck. So yeah, I'll sometimes end up a day or two before pay day with just the dollars and cents in my pocket.
Am I going to just sit at home and eat ramen every single time? No. |
