Who said that our race relations are perfect? Hell, we stole land from the Indians way before you even got here - and they're still pissed off about it.

I won't even start about our national division by fricken LANGUAGE of all things...

Racism lite? Do you have a government organization put in place just to make sure that you speak another language in the workplace - or that on signs that english is HALF the size of anything written in french?

Y'know, I've never quite got this whole thing about how Canada is infinately nicer. It always felt more of a passive-aggressive form of nationalism then an actual declarative statement.

From McNally's rant about New York, when he gets to how "People never litter in Canada!" and "Canadians know about commonwealth property!" it got particuarly annoying. I'm not saying this as a blast to McNally--from the sounds of it, it's more just you letting steam out after a nasty breakup and homesickness and chosing NYC as your punching bag--but I'm certain that if I had the same amount of problems as he did and lived in a major city another country away, I would find plenty of things to bitch about.

Anyway, to get away from me pratically ranting about someone elses rant, one thing on the show I'm surprised wasn't discussed here was the NYU protest. When I heard about this and reactions from the protesters, I remembered an article from a blog I semi-regularly read called Colihouse about the "Protest Culture." Some young people protest because they have beliefs and genuinely want to change things. Some get an adreduline rush fucking with the man and have a good chance at getting laid. Some even think that it's their job as young people in college to do some sort of protesting.

You're definitely on target about the homesickness/breakup angle. However, that doesn't make New York not a rat infested garbage dump.

Even from Chemda and Keith's own descriptions it sounds like a shitty place to live... even though they seem to love it. That whole saga about being a waiter and being treated like shit, etc. was totally new to me as I never got any of that in Vancouver.

Oh, and McNally, here waiters do get a wage in addition to the tips, right?

It's canadian minimum wage, so $8 an hour in BC, but yeah, they do. I had a girlfriend who worked at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown, and in the summer she fucking cleaned up. The tips were insane, and then the paycheck was just gravy. Made my porn store wages look pathetic in comparison. But my stories were better.

Yeah, Keith, spend a long time in Canada and you'll realize even without black people, we have an equivalent: our First Nations, or Canadian-Indians. The similarities are staggering - they whine more than they should, especially about hardships they haven't faced in decades, they have their own MONTH, they get massive tax breaks from the Canadian gov't, etc, etc. They even get cash handouts for little to no reason. I have a friend of this race who monthly receives a cheque for a couple hundred dollars. Actually, they have it even easier than black people.
