If you want to get pissed at someone profiting from only sampling music of other artists to make his own, look up Girl Talk(link) this guy blatantly samples other music to make his own. The only reason Girl Talk isn't sued for his sampling is he doesn't profit from his CD sales he just makes money from touring. Which is where most artist make their money. i've often wondered about this guy specifically. i fucking love girl talk, saw him live, danced my ass off, really good shit BUT I left the show wondering "how the HELL does this guy do this? he can't possibly pay every single artist he samples?" he samples a dozen or more artists per song! but holy shit, girl talk is awesome. |

Man, I already liked you, McNally, but that was a gem. I put up with NYC for too many years. The only possible way anyone could like it there is to have the ability to lie to themselves daily. You know how the world is always bitching at Americans for being closed-minded because they have no idea what the rest of the world is like? Well take it from someone who's lived in NYC and the plenty of other places, that's what we people from the flyover states feel about New Yorkers. You are bunch of clueless assholes living in your little closed system. Enjoy your shitpile now that your tax revenue from "evil Wall Street" is gone. Should only take a couple of years for the place to end up like a scene from I Am Legend.

Heh, just heard the show today, and shit on me, it WAS the rant from Ham Radio. haha. Oh wells. That was a good episode of Ham, too!
And I kinda have to side with Matt on a lot of things, call me an ass if you will. He made good arguments, he just got scattered as he was defending against Keith and Chemda at the same time. I know they're the hosts, but if Matt had disscussions with either one, without the other coming in on something, I think he might make his cases better. He's got to yell because he's one voice over two. I doubt he would be as shouty in a one v. one situation.

While his live shows he isn't doing anything wrong cause its just the same as any other DJ his albums are a different story. Feed The Animals has 300 samples but believes it falls the brief snippets fall under fair use. It is getting more scary for Girl Talk as his popularity grows more people hear about him. GT is just honest artist though what wants to be taken seriously. He doesn't care if people get his art buy paying for it or downloading it for free as long as he is taken seriously I have been to 3 of his shows and I would take a Girl talk show over any other live bands performance |

Also, I thought that it was interesting when they were talking about the Rhianna/Chris Brown thing, and how Jay-Z said he was going to kill Chris Brown or whatever. Matt B made a comment about how he can't believe that Jay-Z the author of "99 problems and a bitch ain't one" can be all of a sudden the great defender of womens rights because he has since fallen in love and gotten married to Ms Beyonce. Well in Matt B's liberal heart, if a building can stop a Nazi from killing, then why can't a mans love for a woman change him as well. |

I just want to say on the tipping issue, that even after listening the last few shows, and yes, I'm black (mostly), I still consider tipping entirely optional. If I simply don't have the cash, then I may feel guilty if the service was good, but I won't think of it as a big deal. I've gone out to eat knowing that I wouldn't be able to tip. It's something I try to avoid, but it's not something I'll apologize for.
I do tip fairly well, I think. Generally around 20%, but feel free to assume otherwise, because again, it's not a big deal to me. I tip due to appreciation, not obligation, and if I can't, I can't. I'm not your employer. Stop being a waiter if it sucks so much, and if it doesn't, stop whining. I've had crappy jobs, but I've never been a waiter, I understand that you put up with a lot of shit and you get shit wages, but no amount of indignation is going to make me feel guilty about not paying someone else's employee. The guilty party here is any system that allows any employer to pay less than minimum wage, so don't look at me like I owe anyone anything, I pay for what I buy. Anything more is optional. As far as why black people tip less, I don't know. My guess is that it's because black culture has adopted "the struggle" as it's own. Black people don't feel they owe anybody anything, if anything, the establishment should be tipping me for eating here, I have it hard too. I mean, why should I tip my waiter when I can't even get a cab in my own city after 6pm? It's like asking a drowning man to save a man on a sinking boat. Or the other way around, whatever. And even those that manage to rise above the struggle think along the lines of 'No one helped me out, so why should I help anyone?' And it's sad, but the Me vs. the World mentality is very much a large part of the culture, and probably plays a huge role, along with just general ignorance (I didn't know how badly waiters were paid either until about a month ago) in explaining why we tip so badly. I'm pretty sure black people are poorer on average than white people, though, so I don't think the statistic on black/white tipping was very fair at all. I'm willing to bet dentists tip more than single mothers also. So part of it is probably just the fact that certain patterns are more overt, since we tend to categorize people by race instinctively anyway. It's easier to tell black person from a white person than it is to tell whether or not someone has two kids at home to feed. And everyone knows, any black person over the age of 16 is somebody's babymomma/daddy anyway. My own opinion on tipping has nothing to do with either race or culture, though perhaps nationality does play a part (I was raised in Jamaica, where tipping is rare among locals and tourist alike, but where in general, waiters are paid relatively well). My opinion is just an opinion. I regret that my first post on the forums takes such an invidious stance, but eh. |
