It's just a waste of money to build houses. It takes too long, the prices have dropped, and no one right now is buying.

You seem to be assuming a whole lot about someone you don't actually know. Did I say that I needed some extravagant standard of living? Looking around, I see no flat-screen TVs, no motorboats or some shit. We were fucked over by a contract change by a refinancing agency and construction slowed down.

All I'm trying to say is that you're putting a massive blanket over the whole situation. Were there a bunch of putzes who thought things would never go down? Definately. But to assume that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE was trying to live a bit more spartan (except for you, of course) and that EVERYONE DESERVES IT is a bit over the top.
