While I have never given money to artists that provide free albums, but I have also never torrented small artists...
I paid close to thirty bucks for "turn it up"... I have found free music online (via artist website) and purchased later albums that were for sale. |

Not exactly what the poll asked... but I have downloaded/stolen music from various artists which has then led me to go out and buy their stuff. Mainly thanks to my own laziness. I cant be bothered tracking down every single track on an album. Also I'd feel kinda bad for just flat out stealing it and never giving back. And theres the odd satisfaction of collecting albums of a band you like. Thats the one thing I dont like about itunes... I miss actually owning the physical album even though they inevitably all get scratched to shit anyway.

I used to download a lot of music when i didn't have itunes and napster was still a big deal. But i was a cheapskate douche back then. Now i think that if you find a non-mainstream band (like merit) that you like, you have to support them. Buy their albums, go to their shows, and in this case download AND donate.
Music is one of the best gift that an artist can give you (and i mean that, i'm not aying this as bullshit poetry). When you have a band or song you love, it can change your life, your mood or your entire day or attitude. So at least supporting them a bit is the least you can do. |
