While sleep paralysis is the likely culprit, this could also be low-level Carbon Monoxide poisoning. CO is known, at low levels, to cause people to hear and see shit, in much the same way that people tend to see ghosts, shadow people, and the like. I'll betcha they're living in a super old house--that's where most people "see ghosts," and it's also where most people who die of CO poisoning die of CO poisoning.

Actually, I take that back--verifiable evidence of ghosts would surprise the shit out of me. |

I agree. There's hardly any phenomenon that cannot be explained scientifically. Believing in the supernatural is an easy way out.

Sounds like there are some other topics later in the show, but I've just heard the first part on my way to work.
On the 911 call how is that cop not being brought up on any charges? I know it's a tv show, but the Seinfeld finale didn't they go to jail over failure to aid? The law being you can be charged for failing to render aid to someone in peril when it's safe for you to do it. That's precisely what he did. It was the sworn duty of his job and he chose not to do it. This person was in peril and he chose not to render aid in the emergency. I'd like to see jail time for him. I do however also agree with him that she's a dumb bitch. While he was trying to parent her, I'd have just said "my dad's dying" and see if the cop reacts a little different rather than go the route of you're gonna get fired for this.

I don't know, maybe some people do believe in werewolves and vampires. Sounds like you'd need another poll for that subset. I will say that I have met some people who suck the life energy out of others and I'd be happy to call them vampires or succubi.
