I became old enough to appreciate the Beatles right around the time they broke up. And yet I still recognize most of their songs. I once bought a paperback book with just their song lyrics and I could sing most of them. That's how much airplay they got, even years later.

One thing to remember about them is how truly revolutionary they were for their time. They had a lot of firsts. The first-ever 4-track music recording was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Upt until then, everything was recorded almost live.

They were so successful that EMI gave them free use of the studio. The didn't pay by the hour like all other bands, so this led to a lot of experimentation. Little things like the first use of feedback on a rock record. Not to mention all those songs that went *way* over the normal time limit. I remember hearing DJ's pre-announce when they would play Let it Be since it was so long.

Artificial Double Tracking, close miking of instruments, sampling, synchronized tape machines, backwards vocals, etc. The Beatles' recording technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It doesn't mean one has to love all their music NOW, but it was pretty crazy for back in the day.

The chicken in subway was real and the rest too, including the freaky cut scene that made it only on the dvd extras, where borat tries to get a doggie from a puppy mill to eat it or "perform exorcism with it". A masterpiece.
The Rodeo scene where he sings the national anthem was definitely real. It took place like 2 miles from where I live. Once the movie came out, a bunch of people here were pissed off that they were "exploited"

Luenell was an actress, but the rest of the people were not. So there was a setup, but most of the people weren't in on it.

Just download it and the show notes are hilarious, my fave being "why don't you like dick? It tastes delicious". I'm looking forward to this.
