Incorrect. Healthy people end up costing the health care industry more overall, because they live longer. Smokers are kind enough to die early.

A Burden!? That's called Job Security!
Seriously, It's stupid bullshit to claim it's because of a burden on the healthcare system. What the fuck do you think would happen if nobody smoked? It'd be obesity. Hell, New York itself was the perfect example. They issued all these regulations against smoking, and a lot of people quit smoking as a result. However, shortly afterward, the obesity rate in NY skyrocketed. So now they have these public walks and complaints about fast food restaurants in poor neighborhoods. Once all fatty foods have been banned and Arnold is president (name that movie,) we'll have to ban tables with corners, because THAT'LL be burdening the healthcare system. Something will always be the leading cause of death. Something will ALWAYS need to be regulated by do-gooders that insist on involving themselves in everyone else's lives. It won't decrease any so-called burdens on the healthcare system. Fuck, let's ban Newsy's candy. Diabetes is a burden on the healthcare system. |

That's the type of sentence that makes me mad. If you live in a democracy and want to give equal rights to everybody, it shouldnt be any of your business why somebody needs health care or not. I agree that smoking should be fight against, as much as any drug abuse (including alcohol abuse). But you also have to take account that smokers are drug addicts, and they're as much as a burden as anybody with an addiction. They have any right to be cured. If you do not agree, just say out loud that you do not care about the health of others and you dont want to pay for it, do not expect anyone to do that for you. I'm not saying that you're a bad person for thinking that, just say it. But dont talk to me about what a burden for society smokers are... |
