I know it's corny, but that is the way most people think. Confrontation causes stress, and stress makes booze taste extra good. There is always the laxitive in the beer trick. After the third or fourth day of massive squirts, he will associate horrible abdominal pain with the drinking. TADA! I fixed alcoholism. NEXT problem! |

Just looking at the show title I know this is going to be a good one. Off hand I'd say no Keith is not a drunk. I don't know him personally so I can't say for sure. There is a difference though from drinking because you enjoy drinking and drinking because you trying to advoid somethig. Keith atleast the Keith presented on the show seems to be very intouch with himself. People who have addictions are useing whatever their addiction is as a sort of cruch to get them though day to day life. That is also why it's harder for them to quit because there not sure how to function with out it. I don't think that's the case here. At the very least if Chemda feels is a problem then I'd suggest taking a month or two off from drinking then start back slowy. If you can't mangage to stop for a month or 2 without any problems the you are indeed a drunk
Again I haven't listen to the show yet and may change my mind. |

It doesn't matter if any of us think Keith has a drinking problem; the only person whose opinion should matter to Keith thinks he does. It cannot possibly be said that Chemda is coming from a bad place, and it is clear she has had a problem with it for a long time. It is odd that Keith steadfastly refuses to even talk about his intake of alcohol over the long run, and is instead only willing to consider temporary alterations to his habit.
Whether or not Keith meets some sort of objective measurement of alcoholism is unimportant; the fact is that it is causing a problem in his relationship. In all of KATG's history, the most upset I've ever heard Chemda is over Keith's drinking. That is a serious issue, and yet Keith tries to deflect it by laying low or sobering up for a week before going back to business as usual. By the way, I listened to this show and the previous one back to back, so if I'm incorrectly recalling which episode what I'm about to mention is from, my apologies. Anyway, Chemda asked what exactly the Bible says about homosexuality. Here is a pretty clear quote, spoken by God himself: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." That's from Leviticus, which, earlier in the text, calls man on man action an "abomination", exactly as Keith said. I suppose that quote technically doesn't rule out lesbianism, though that doesn't matter in the case of Keith's brother. This is something the Bible is very clear on: male homos must die. |

I miss Partay Supa Partay & I don't like it when Mummy & Daddy fight.
Are you going to get a divorce? I don't want to listen to Keith only on alternate weekends & holidays. |

"Alcoholic" is a term that get's thrown around a lot. It's one of those things like ADD that people like to slap on each other and themselves.
Frankly, I think AA is one of the biggest culprits in this process. Maybe it came from a good place in the beginning, by giving people a catch phrase they make it easier for people to get out of pressure situations by claiming membership. There is a huge diffence however, between bonafide chemical dependance on any chemical (not excepting caffine or nicotine) and problems with impulse control. Alcoholic too is simple a label and too loaded a word to actually cover all the bases. I don't know Keith well enough to know whether or not he is an "alcoholic," but if I had to guess. I would say he isn't. I voted "no" because I don't think the show will have anything to do with whether Keith alters his drinking behaviour. Going to a WeightWatchers meeting with cookies would make a hilarious KATG/TV episode though. Better yet, stand outside and offer people "one last cookie" before they go in for their first meeting.
