Conservatives should reassess their devotion to Palin (which I think the party is attempting to do by grooming folks like Gingrich). In recent years, the main strength of the Republican party has been its ability to keep its constituents in lockstep. They were much more cohesive than the Democrats (as the old joke goes, keeping Democrats on the same path is like trying to herd cats). So the Republican vote hasn't been as splintered as it is on the Dem side. But people like Palin are driving moderates out of the party. Keith isn't the only conservative-leaning person I've heard declare that he's done with the Republican party. And then you have the religious folks declaring that they want to start running their own candidates, ones who are properly anti-gay and anti-abortion. I think in the next couple of elections the Republicans will start contending with their own "Green Party" equivalent.

*One of the ethics investigations of Palin concerned her firing of a top police official after he refused to fire a police officer who just happened to be in the midst of a messy divorce from a Palin family member (her sister or something). There are now rumors that there might be an investigation into the construction of her house, which was built by the same company that got a sweetheart deal to construct a stadium around the same time. There is some question as to where the Palins got the money to build this home and whether it was a "tit for tat" deal with the construction company after she kicked them a multi-million dollar building contract. (She claims that her husband Todd built this $300K+ home with "a few buddies.")

I know that Chemda said that Emmy's going to make a condensed version of the speech, but allow me to take a crack at it.

"Thanks a lot you dumb-fucks for voting for me and trusting me as governor, but I gotta go and start campaigning for the 2012 election."

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKK You! and welcome to the forums.

Palin hasn't figured out this isn't a pageant yet. She's working on packing suitcases for her talent.

Whatch what you say

Speaking of watching what you say...

One summer, my mom hired a local mason to put in a retaining wall. School was out for the summer, so the mason brought his son along to help set the rock for the wall. My mom, who is a school teacher, said to the kid "make sure you study hard in school so you don't have to do this for a living." She meant it in a good way, but could easily be taken as "you don't want to end up with a job like your dad has when you grow up."

I still give her shit about it.

Want to read something crazy?

Quote:
Even though the governor of Alaska dropped the bombshell last week that she was leaving her post, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that her support among Republicans is still strong. In fact, her resignation seems to have even slightly boosted her among GOP constituents.

According to the nationwide poll, close to 67% of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future. And 71% of them say they would likely vote for her if she ran for president in 2012.
Sarah Palin: Out, but not down - Yahoo! News

Wow. Just wow. What's the deal with Republicans pushing for dumb presidents? Do they secretly hate the United States?
