I understand that it’s hard for you Chemda with your father in law.
Maybe it’s better now, if he talked to you on a regular basis now, politics would come up for sure.
I always thought he was a sweet man but the stories with violence and the god stuff turned me off.
I left the church as you maybe remember, but still I must say Jesus was pretty peaceful how he is written about in the Bible.
How this fits together for the republicans I will never understand.

The “sell your cloak and buy a sword” guy? The wouldn’t heal people in a town because they didn’t believe he was the son of god guy? The guy who invented infinite torture for finite crimes including thought crimes? They same guy that said that the old laws were cool which included how to treat a slave and that a rape victim had to marry her rapist? Maybe a Bronze Age carpenter with a god complex isn’t the best resource for morality.

There is a good reason I went to the office and said I don’t want to be catholic anymore and now I’m an atheist in the eyes of the state.

This is how you have to do it in Germany.

I still think if the Republicans really took what’s in the Bible seriously, they wouldn’t separate immigrant children from their parents for example.
Or let people die because they have no health insurance.

Yes, you go to an office and unsubscribe from catholicity. They take you off the list.

It's a stupid bureaucratic thing - they had to get somebody from the office next door in to 'witness' me declaring I want to be an atheist. So silly but it felt great - I did that in my early 20s and I still vividly remember it. Also laughed a lot at the local Protestant church sending me letters afterwards pretending to care about me being a member of the community when they've never even seen me before.

Obviously did it because I don't believe in religion and it felt really good to set up a regular donation to a cat shelter to give that money to a better cause.
