I know it's primarily a cultural and religious thing, but I wonder if the medical benefits are shown to be significant, whether a Muslim would get a circumcision. Would they get one if they could see the health merits, or is it a tradition that is too far immeshed with Judaism for it ever to be a feasible choice?

Depends on the Muslim. Thank God I never had to go to one of these, but Uzbeks hold their circumcision parties at different ages. I seem to remember 7 being the favored age for it. Nobody tells the boy what's gonna happen other than that he'll get a lot of presents. I guess it's like a bar mitzvah, but waaaay more traumatizing.

Oh yeah, "Thank God I never had to go..." meaning I lived in Uzbekistan for a while.

Is it referred to specifically as a circumcision party, or a coming of age thing, like a bar mitzvah?
