This one there wasn't a whole lot of "genius" needed, or potential for "fundamental errors" involved.
He held his eyes open with his fingers and sneezed. It doesn't take genius to try it, and there aren't a whole lot of variables to have an error with. I felt comfortable citing Mythbusters for this one. |

Dude...come on. You can criticize Mythbusters for some stuff, but debunking "you can't sneeze with your eyes open, or your eyes will pop out" is very easy to do. You sneeze. You hold your eyes open. Check if eyes pop out. Mythbusters can certainly verify that, and they did.

I never said that I refuted what the MythBusters did with sneezes -- why would I give a shit? I just find it hard to take anything they do seriously when they say stuff like the pressure at the surface of water is "0 psi".

There is a big difference between "you can't sneeze with your eyes open" and "you can't sneeze with your eyes open or your eyes will pop out." I don't know if the former is true, but the latter is ridiculous and we shouldn't need Mythbusters to prove it. I've actually never heard the "eyes popping out" bit.
That's one thing I don't like about Mythbusters, they often test the wrong myth. Another example is "will jamming the end of a gun barrel make the barrel explode?" If they had researched it a little they would know it would only apply to rifles and it happens all the time, but they only tested shotguns and declared it impossible. Shotguns weren't the myth, no one believes that happens with shotguns. |
