Believe it or not it got forced on me. I had a roommate who also served as my attendant for a couple of years. He got a great opportunity and moved to FL I couldn't find a suitable replacement so I was alone. I love it now, but was apprehensive at first.

Whenever I've known people in wheelchairs I've always gone for the second option as I don't like to be patronising but I feel a bit awkward talking down to people.

In most situations standing doesn't bother me. I was at a noisy bar once and some guy was trying to say something to me, I couldn't hear him. He wouldn't come down to my level, yet still got pissed off at me for not hearing him.

The absolute worst is when some little fuck tries to grab the controls on my chair, and the parents do nothing because 'he's curious'. Will he be curious when a 300 pound wheelchair crushes him because I couldn't cut the power in time?
