Condenser Mic/Phantom Power help!

I just received my MXL 990 condenser mic from Musicians Friend today and everything looked fine when I unboxed so I went ahead and hooked it up to my mixer. I use a Yamaha MW12CX USB mixer that provides phantom power but I can't get anything to record through my MXL 990. I've never used a mic that requires phantom power so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. My Shure PG58s work so I know it's not the mixer or cables. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

There's usually a button on the mixer to turn on phantom power, see if you can find a button (even one that doesn't actually say phantom power) and press whatever you can find until the shit works. Also, are you using an XLR connection or a quarter inch connection? I don't actually know if that part makes a difference, but it might.

My mixer does have a phantom power button but when I hit it nothing happens. I'm using XLR cables so I'm not sure what the hell is going on. I wish I had another mic that needs phantom to see if my new one is a dud.

OK. So I went to my local music store and the mic works. The question is why isn't it working with my mixer. My mic is hooked up to channel one with a XLR to XLR cable, the channel is on, phantom power is on and the cable works. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. All my other mics that aren't phantom power word fine. My band is going to do some recording soon so I'm going to take my mixer and mic with me to see if the sound engineer can tell me whats going on. If I could figure it out before hand that would be great.

thanks in advance
