Dude, whoever took green beans and baked beans is fucking bullshit. That's almost like saying you'll bring apples for dessert.

They should have let you have the easy ones being a first-timer. Maybe go to a caterer and get some baller-ass dish and fucking rock the bean douches.

You ok D ? A little harsh response to an event not associated with KATG. Maybe the people bringing green beans and baked beans are newbies also.

I concur. I must know about this.

I make a really good red lentil dish

chop up and saute in a pan with oil:
one onion
3 pablano peppers
three carrots
three celery stalks
1 tablespoon of minced ginger
1 tablespoon of minced garlic

1 tablespoon of curry powder
1 teaspoon of cumin seed
1 teaspoon of mustard seed
2 vegetable bouillon cubes
dash of fresh pepper

saute the vegetables in the oil till they start to get soft, then add the spices and a little bit of water so that the curry powder and bouillon can incorporate and cook into the veggies

add 4 cups of boiling hot water and 1 pound of red lentils (wash the lentils in water and drain them before adding to the pot)

bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cover, cook for 20 mins

chop up a handful of fresh cilantro (about a 1/3 cup in the end) and two tomatoes and stir this into the cooked lentils

can be served alone or over rice, garnish with sour cream and or chipotle salsa (the kind that comes in a can from the Hispanic section)

the red lentils will get soft and the dish will end up somewhat creamy. some variation in texture will come from the veggies

really tasty. In fact.... I think I might go make a batch now unless slampokes posts her moussaka recipe soon...
