Drinking tips

I have been sober for a while, and started drinking recently.

When i used to be an alcoholic, i got drunk in a very destructive manner, with hangovers that killed me for a day and a half.

That said: are there any tips you can give to drink, get drunk and avoid getting sick too quick?

How does that ditty work "Liquour before beer"... What does it mean?

Is there, essentially, a way to drink, enjoy the fun of being drunk but have less throwing up and painful hangovers?

I think there was a KATG episode with mention to this a while back... Or maybe I"m remembering something from work... either way one of the common ways to put it is:

Beer before liquor makes you sicker...
Liquor before beer your in the clear...

The more common "translation" for this saying is that when you drink, depending on the beverage, your initial pace of drinking depends greatly on the type of beverage and your personal tolerance to flavor and quality... and it influences the pace at which you continue to drink at that particular time.

If you start out by drinking beer, and then move on to harder alcohol, you may have a tendency to continue drinking the liquor at the same rate you were drinking beer. Although I've seen a few people do this and walk away fine, it's not a very good idea.

Most people don't drink their liquor at the same pace they drink their beer, but at a slower pace. And generally if you start out at that pace, you will continue it when you move onto said beer.

Personally, I give myself a limit to how much I will drink and keep myself to it... I typically get completely smashed off of hard liquor and then kick back and enjoy a few beers for the hours following. This allows me to be considerably drunk, and then kind of "plateau" while I drink a few beers for the following hours.

I strongly suggest you start out easy and then work your way up from there... and figure out what works best for you.

Another important tip that I've found to be useful... Drink water. Have a glass or two a little while before you start drinking... and maybe try and slip one in during or right after (if you can remember haha). This will help you stay hydrated and might even help keep that nasty hangover under control. Also try and eat a little... drinking on an empty stomach is never good.

This stuff works for me anyhow... Everyone has their own unique way of drinking... Best of luck to you in finding yours! :)

I drink like a fish and never get hungover. WATER WATER WATER!! before you go to bed and if you wake up during the night

I also always throw up before I go to bed then drink water. I wake up feeling like 100 bucks.

I'm in the same position as you, minus needing to be taught. I did quit drinking for 15 months and have been drinking again for the last two months. Although I think the chick I'm seeing might be one of those high-functioning closet alcoholics, fucking karma...

The one rule I've followed is

"Too much stuff and you throw up"

As for hangovers, don't drink too much and drink good liquor. Let's be honest, you shouldn't be drinking liquor at all and you fucking know it. I shouldn't either and I know this, I'm pretty good about it. Just try to stay hydrated, that doesn't mean a glass of water before bed. That means switch to water at the end of the night, try to get down 2-3 glasses and not all at once.

And don't smoke while drinking.

And if you do get a hangover, eat a Bacon sandwich. Am I right Jeremy?

Bartenders love that shit. They also look at you like an asshole if you order coffee. No one drinks coffee or water but the elderly apparently.

It probably has more to do with the company you keep. If all your friends are drinking shitty diet beer or doing shots of disgusting schnapps then you probably shouldn't hang too late with them. Cutting out early is the only way I can ever avoid excessive drunkenness when I'm out with drunk younger people. Don't say goodnight, just leave. No one will hang shit on you the next day, you won't run up a $200 tab, and you'll feel awesome in the morning.

Where I work we refer to sneaking away early as "the shuffle."
Here's a common morning conversation at our office:
"Dude, you fag, you did the shuffle last night. You missed out."

"Oh yea, hows your head? Did you take the pig home, the stripper home, or did you just jerk off"

"Fuck you dude, I'm doin it next time. I feel like shit."
The key is to do it quietly. Pay your tab away from the table and get out. Getting caught sneaking away early often results in being guilted into buying a round of shots.

Yeah dude, water is the key. Alcohol is a diuretic, like tea and coffee, which basically means it'll dehydrate you. It's also a poison, like poison, which means it poisons you.

So with your old buddy water, at the same time as you're flushing the poison through and out of your system you're rehydrating automatically. It's a classic two birds with one stone scenario, except the stone is made out of water and the birds are woodpeckers that want to hammer a hole in your brain.

In addition you can use what doctors refer to as the FFC method, but after vomitting as well as rehydration you might also need to replace electrolytes so keep some tablets or sports drinks handy for just such an occasion.

I overdid the water thing one New Years Eve; I wanted to have a huge night without puking and feeling like shit the next day so I had a glass of water between every drink. I was puking in the toilet during the countdown.

5, 4, 3, 2, BLLLLLLLaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghh, 1,, hhgnnnnngasoooooaaauugh Happy New Year!

So between every drink I would not recommend but definitely keep your water intake up, have a glass next to your bed for when you wake up with sandpaper mouth and have a nice greasy breakfast.
