yes I loved her books as well and even though the ones after she passed were far worse I still read them to get the storyline finished.
A lot of her books are a bit girly but I really liked her Darkover series that is a cool mix of fantasy and science-fiction

what he said ;-)
or were you just confused which one is the first?

I would actually not recommend reading "New Spring" as the first one but rather keep it as a treat for a little later when you need a Moiraine fix

BTW Amazon just let me know that Towers of Midnight is in the mail and should arrive shortly

I'm suprised no one has thus far mentioned the "Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R.R. Martin. Book one is "A Game of Thrones".

This series is one of the best fantasy series out there IMO.

I think I'm related to her (share the same last name, lives 20 minutes away) but I've never read any of her books, what should I start with?

Amazon.com: The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) (9780812511819): Robert Jordan: Books

It even has the cover art like Lanfear's avatard. Books are fucking cheap in America.

The Magicians Guild is probably the best place to start. Great set of books.

Agree, George R. R. Martin is great. Probably the best newer stuff out there.

I really like Robert E. Howard

and Michael Moorcock's Elric saga is great too.

Another great author is Fritz Leiber. Fafhrd and The Gray Mouser is awesome.

Liked the Hallows series but I felt that Rachel got increasingly annoying. I know that she was supposed to be a spontaneous character but she came of as someone with stupid decision making skills. But I really got into it till the very end.

Speaking of books with women as the main character, has anyone read Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart series? I highly recommend it if you haven't. The magic isn't a dominant part of the series, but the books are excellent. And I shit you not, they are some of the sexiest books ever written.
