Free Multiplayer game, F.E.A.R. coming soon.

The Award winning PC GAME OF THE YEAR and FPS OF THE YEAR, F.E.A.R. is coming out with a new verison called F.E.A.R Combat which will be the Multiplayer composite for FREE after August 17th.

This is a bit misleading as the multiplayer component of the paid game will be free, not the game itself.

Sierra Entertainment today announced that the multiplayer component from the award winning PC title F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon), has been renamed F.E.A.R. Combat, and will be made available to the public as a free download on Thursday August 17th, 2006.

If I'm understanding this correctly then, you'll have to own the purchased game to play the multiplayer? I'm wondering why they're just now adding multiplayer support though, I seem to remember it supporting it in beta. Hm.

No, the multiplayer stuff will be released stand alone. The full game already has multiplayer and is one of the best FPS I've ever played...

yea, F.E.A.R. already has multiplayer in the version that you have to buy. as devilishone said, it will be released stand alone. the question is, does that mean I'll be able to play people with the stand alone version when I have the purchased version?

That's awesome! I don't know if it's the best FPS I've ever played though, Quake 2 still holds that title, hehe. But I'll definitely be giving this a second try.

Yes, both the retail and free MP versions will be able to play on the same servers, the free MP version will also be able to download player made content, effectively its the same as the retail without the single player content.
