It needs to be signed by the president (which in the Portuguese politics is more of an arbiter and figurehead, and has little practical power) The main contention now is that it may be unconstitutional because it does not cover adoption by gay couples. In other words, it might change in the near future or/and begin a even bigger political shit storm, if the president refuses to sign the current bill. I think we will pass it, its party hasn't got the strength, right now, to fight it again in Parliament. And he might run for for reelection, in 2010, in a country that had gay marriage has an electoral promise by the current Prime Minister. Let's wait and see

Ahh, so unlike most instances of this issue in domestic politics, this actually has inertia on its side. Good. I'll still be pessimistic so I can be that much more surprised/happy once it's finalized.

Den kvelden Max hadde tatt på seg ulvedrakten ble han helt på styr...[NOR]
My youth just turned into a film, I'm a happy camper!
It’s the Norwegian version of "Where the Wild Things Are". It’s translated to “To the Land of The Huttetu”… Note to self: Do not open the KATG forums at school, in class. At first I was startled by a penis all up in my grill, embarrassing in itself. Then, when I though all was safe and easy sailing; BOOM! Comes another one! |
