In GOD We Trust Sinks Dollar

a quote in Vanity fair
"The motto “In God we trust” was added to the dollar bill in 1957. Since then its purchasing power, relative to the consumer price index, has declined by a staggering 87 percent."

Is that necessarily causative though?

You either believe or you don't.

Then you either trust or you don't.

Of course, our entire monetary system is based on trust. You either believe that non-gold backed piece of paper has value, or you don't. I do have some Confederate Dollars on hand, perhaps you believe those have value as well? Personally, I prefer payment in precious metals, stones or ammo. But that's me.

I can probably trust your dollars (Confederate, not so sure) but sure won't trust God. I hope ammo doesn't become too relevant.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to blame the decline of our dollar on the words printed on it. That's like if I wore a shirt with a Jesus on it, acted a fool, and blamed it on the shirt when people didn't like me. It smacks of logical fallacy.

Completely off topic, but with all the flooding in Australia, are you and all of yours ok?

How can you trust a monetary system based on a shiny rock?
This piece of paper is backed by a shiny rock somewhere else.
