KATG on Podshow.com
So Podshow just released the new version of their site. In their program guide (http://www.podshow.com/hot/?mode=shows), under Comedy theres no mention of KATG. DnD, the Podshow slaves, are listed ofc.
In any case, the KATG page (http://www.podshow.com/showguide/?ke...d_type=ext_url) has a big orange button "take me to the Show Site" and a "Check out the show's site" link. These go to... well, not katg.com. They go to the KATG show page instead. On THAT page (http://www.podshow.com/shows/?mode=e...ad33835346bbdd) theres a link "View Show website" (hard to read with the lime green on white) which takes you to the proper site. So in Podshow's world there is a difference between site and website. If this wasnt bad enough, when you click "play it" next to any of the previous episodes, up pops a window with a Flash-based player and an ad at the bottom of the page. The MP3 is being pulled in from Libsyn. Does KATG get a cut from the ads being shown while their show is played? If not, as far as I can see, Podshow is just profiting off others' work. |

i think since podcasts are free to all to use as you see fit, they can pretty much do as they please. they just cant cut up the audio file. i think podshow has something on XM or sirius, and im pretty sure theyve played KATG before. It brings in listeners, which is probably the priority, right now. i wouldnt sweat it.
did you know podshow owns podcast alley? |

Yeah the podcast alley purchase is hilarious. Good point on the listeners bit.
The thing I reacted to though was the fact that by using words like "show site" it seems that KATG is a podshow property since its on the podshow.com domain. Maybe its just semantics. At least they have a link back if you drill all the way down. |

if they were really worried about it could they do one of those NFL or MLB type of things where they list on their site that all pubic broadcasts must have expressed written consent, blah blah blah?

1. Mark Hunter has some interesting info about this in his blog
http://tartanblog.blogspot.com/2006_...g_archive.html 2. also they are editing the rss feeds and making podshow ones, stripping copyright and author info. http://www.paulcolligan.com/2006/07/...how-hysterics/ [edit]they claim they've fixed #2 Last edited by paul_r; 07-08-2006 at 06:07 PM. |

Podcasts aren't free
I'm sure you can't just replay and repackage (change RSS) podcasts for your own benefit. I remember a Daily Source Code (back when I listened to that god-awful show) when Adam Curry was complaining about a company that was repackaging his show over cell phones. He wrote them a letter threatening to sue them and they stopped playing his show in a hurry. Regardless, PodShow has no future. I mean look at that fucking ugly ass site.

There are laws about using someone elses copyrighted material for profit. The show would be considered copyrighted. Spooky, you should know that as an artist. I think the Libsyn people are the ones that should be mad about the bandwidth stealing.
