Ms. Campy,

If you dig documentaries check out the following:

Project Nim - about teaching an ape how to sign
The Cove - you've heard Keith rant about this one
Religulous - interesting religious documentary
Zeitgeist
Cutting Edge: The Child Sex Trade
Bi The Way - one of my favourite docs out there. Discusses whether or not there is such a thing as bisexuality
Paris is Burning - drag queens

I LOOOOVE documetaries. I've got tons more to recommend.

Documentary: Jesus Camp, Jiro Dreams of Sushi

I've made a vow to myself to never watch a documentary with any sort of stance involved (Bowling for Columbine, Super Size Me) because a documentary can make you believe anything they want you to believe. The only docs I'll ever watch are ones only meant to inform and are as "fly on the wall" as possible. Both of these docs that I suggested are incredibly hands off.

@OP
"In Bruges" - fantastic crime drama/black comedy. It's in my top 10 movies of all time.
"Oldboy" - Korean detective noir. Top 5 all time.

If you like crime I'd start looking up the best of the best classic film noirs. I know Chinatown is on netflix instant. Winter's Bone (2010) is a modern noir that breaks the noir formula by using a female protagonist. It was also nominated for best film, best adapted screen play, best female lead, and best male support.

Thanks Astigos, I have seen Chinatown that was pretty good. I'll have to check out Old Boy.

See also "The Guard", by the brother of the director of "In Bruges" and starring the magnificent Brendan Gleeson, also from "In Bruges".

Funniest movie of last year.

Guns are bad, eating at McDonald's is bad. What spin from these liberal assholes, right?

Also, ALL documentaries have a stance involved. Films get made and edited by people, people with opinions and biases. Even if it's not a conscious decision of the filmmaker, all documentaries are trying to tell you something.

Like all other genres, documentaries have sub-genres as well. Expository documentaries are the ones that have the stances we're referring to. They are not unlike a TV news segment or a newspaper article. They can make you believe what they want because they are the filter which the information must pass. They get to choose what not to tell you.

I will still however watch observational documentaries where there is nearly no interaction from the crew with the subjects. The film is simply meant to show you the subject in its truest state.

Side note: Morgan Spurlock got fat from the diet because he was overconsuming calories (probably over 3500/day), NOT because he was eating McDonald's. The overconsumption of calories and healthy vs unhealthy foods are two different issues.
