Hey guys, I recently torrented a version of windows 7 to install on my new macbook pro. It gets past the bootcamp screen, restarts (supposedly to start installing windows) then the screen goes black, and it says "insert a bootable disk." help?

Did you format the bootcamp partition before installing? (Make sure you do a real format, not just a 'quick format'... and make sure you select your bootcamp partition - not your Macintosh partition!) |

Restart your computer and immediately press the c key. The computer will look for a bootable CD or DVD and, if it finds one, will use it as its startup device. If that does not work it most likely on of two things; a problem with the drive or a problem with the disk. Can you get another copy of the disk to test it? |

It may be a problem trying to make a boot disk with a torrented version of the OS. I've never done that, I like having the actual physical media. Can you not get a hold of a legitimate copy?

Our experience at work (where we have a site license) has been that OSX Install disks are notoriously hard to copy/burn - even those that work may or may not work the next time.
Any reason you aren't just paying $29 for the Snow Leopard upgrade? At this point you've probably already spent that in time. [edit]I see you are in the P.I. so obviously the price could be different.[/edit] Last edited by CyVaquero; 01-19-2010 at 10:52 AM. |
