I use SuperDuper! and have it run an image of my Tb drive twice a day.

*edit - you may not be able to boot off it from USB on Tiger or it might depend on how old the Mac is.
I think this will do. . Weekend project. I'm updating to SL, cleaning it off, and starting over. My profits from tax season this year I can buy a new one but why bother. I'll wait for the super duper touch screen transformable macbook pro that can drive my car before I buy another one.

agghhh.... bye the way I have an old 12 powerbook I got from a friend for sale cheap. I haven't had time to put in on ebay. It works but it's ugly. I also have a first gen iMac Purple I somehow got my hands on. It also works but again who has the time.

So I learned if I reformat my external hard drive I lose my collection of flixxx.. Dammit.

Is the price of a new external (portable) drive worth saving the collection? It must be as my brother speeds over here to copy before I change my mind.

* Just a quick unrelated note to everything else going on:

My Apple Aluminium keyboard had stopped working apart from all the modifier keys like command, option, shift, tab etc. I thought it was a problem on my end, turns out in system preferences I had Mouse Keys ticked in Universal Access, which allows you to move your mouse with keys on your keyboard. Just a quick note for anyone who's having this problem.

(sorry cripples it's not your fault)
So a dialog displayed that has you confirm the feature and explains the feature and also allows you to cancel isn't proper notification? Wow, you are one tough customer.

so now almost all the data and files in that folder have been emptied with the trash...anybody have suggestions on any file recovery programs?

hate hate hate ios4

I updated my 2g ipod touch last week. Stupid. Now my Nike+ doesn't work - controls are sluggish and it stops recording my mileage midway through. My battery life now sucks and I just want to go back to the previous operating system, I think it was 3.1.3. I've found tutorials, downloaded the firmware, put the ipod into DFU mode but when I option-click on the 'restore' button and select the firmware, it says it's not compatible. To which I say, fuck you, give up for another half hour, then try again.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Is there a link to firmware that works? Did I leave out any crucial information? Let me know if I can add anymore info.

You probably downloaded the wrong firmware.

It has to be the right version (3.1.3) for the right device type (iPod touch, not iPhone) for your specific model (sure it's 2G? If it's a newer 32GB or 64GB model, the chipset is the same as the 3GS, so it could be 3rd generation).

My iBook G4 keeps telling me that the Startup Disk is nearly full. I know that I need to clean out the files on my computer and nearly everything is on an external hard drive, but how do I go about emptying my startup disk?

Try out grand perspective, it's an easy visualization tool for finding big files on a drive.

Wow! That helped immensely. It allowed me to free up 6gb of free space and was fun to play around with.
