    • Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive)

Pick Mac OS Extended. It doesn't really matter, because iTunes will do it as soon as you open it. The iPod will show up and iTunes will show you that it needs to be restored.

Please help!
What brand and model is the hard drive? How old is it? Does it have power e.g. does a light turn on? Does the hard drive spin up? Have you tried a different port e.g. USB/Firewire? Does it show up in System Profiler: Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > USB/Firewire?

Answer me them and I'll tell you your problem, and possibly how to fix it

Every time i open up system preferences on my macbook pro and try to change my desktop background it freaks out and does the rainbow spinny circle thing and "quits unexpectedly" for what appears to be no reason.

I can use all of the other options in system preferences without any problems though.

FRUSTRATION!

any thoughts?

I'd try Deleting these files in your Preferences folder: (user> Library> Preferences):

com.apple.systempreferences.plist
com.apple.desktop.plist

And then restarting. Hope this helps

No, unfortunately, is it a custom firmware or something?

I want to keep my music just on my ipod. Not on my laptop. Can this be done?

If you don't mind losing it all when your iPod dies, yes.

Set iPod to manual mode, transfer music to it, delete off laptop, done.
iTunes won't delete stuff off it automatically when you tell it you'll transfer your music manually.

But larger harddrives are cheap nowadays, so I'd suggest you get a larger harddrive for your laptop - re-ripping your entire music collection is not fun.
