I haven't looked to confirm this, but I'm getting a hunch that PETA is similar to Sharpton's Rainbow Push in that both organizations use their perceived power to extort money from corporations and organizations. Rainbow Push is infamous for its price on certifying racial equality. Michael Vick's recent reconciliation with PETA as part of his groundwork to get reinstated into the NFL makes me suspicious that the root of PETA's agenda is a similar extortion scheme.

And yes, their ground troops are mostly insane as well.
