Philadelphia Parking Authority

I have become obsessed with the show parking wars. I am currently on season 2 on netflix. My only knowledge of Philadelphia is from Rocky, it's always sunny in Philadelphia and this show parking wars. Living in California, and not having to deal with parking problems like this, I was wondering if people in philadelphia really hate the PPA as much as the show portrays. To me it seems like driving and parking in Philadelphia is a nightmare. Is it really that bad?

People from North East cities tend to be rude, especially compared to you West Coast types. And Philly is ruder than most. I've had several friends from the West visit and they can't figure out why store clerks, strangers, etc, want to shit on them when they come here.
There's a book Code of the Street: Decency, Violence, and the Moral Life of the Inner City by elijah anderson, a UPenn professor, who studied Philly culture (mostly germantown) who explained it this way: it's like people think respect is a limited commodity. If you give it to someone else, there's less of it for you.

That's an interesting explanation of respect. It makes me appreciate the more laid back lifestyle of the west coast. We still have our cramped cities, I hate driving in Los Angeles, or San Francisco, but for the most part we have open land and no parking issues. Watching this show makes hanging out in Philly look quite depressing. I do realize that they only show the drama stuff cause that's what people enjoy. It's the same way dog the bounty hunter makes me not want to visit Hawaii, what they show makes a beautiful island look disgusting.

Philly Vs West Coast

I must admit, having grown up near Philly and spent a lot of time there, it really depends on the neighborhood. I can park near my brother's place in South Philly no problem, but go into Center city it's a nightmare, just like any big city. I must admit though that visiting him is a real trip. He manages a ghetto fabulous clothing store in the center, and you wouldn't believe the kind of people that roll up in there. Every type of stereotype you ever heard literally parading before your eyes. I live in Arizona now and I'm loving it...

I used to live in Philly and several times I had to go to the parking authority to fight bogus tickets. I got a few tickets when I was legally parked and had money in the meter. They fuck you and you just have to take it.

So do you think the PPA is a scam? Watching the show, I go back and forth between the citizens being ignorant of the rules and wanting to blame others and good citizens really being screwed.

It's pretty rough. I was just driving down Broad Street yesterday and saw two folks getting ticketed.

Part of the problem is that the rules are screwed up sometimes, but the city's also full of plenty of assholes who deserve to be ticketed.

I've lived in the area my entire life and never gotten a ticket. I know folks who've gotten BS tickets, though it has never happened to me, but in a lot of cases it's on the individual.
