This past winter, I took some incredible action shots at the Raptors game. But THIS picture is, by far, my favourite.
Check out the look on this kids' face, and where he's looking. And how about the prude, back-right? Her body language says it all.

2010 Kiss My Camera
I wanna green laser! That looks awesome - makes me want to try some crazy long exposure stuff again with the flashlight.
Also, Bithead - that kid's face is priceless. I got some awesome news today! WAM (West Australian Music Industry Association Inc) has a yearly festival of music and for the last two years they've also held this Kiss My Camera exhibition to run alongside it. It's to showcase shots of Western Australian artists or any artist at a West Australian venue. One of the photos I submitted to the 2010 Kiss My Camera exhibition was selected! 48 images were picked from 450 submitted and it'll be on display at The Western Australian Museum (Perth) from 20th May to 12th July. I'm so stoked!!! Here's the pic, I had to name it for the comp so it is called Times Like These (a song name from the band pictured, Voyager)

Advice
Hopefully some of you will have some guidance for me;
I've been asked by a friend to do some photography and here was the spiel; "Basically we are a building, extensions and renovations company – what were looking at getting is some external and internal shots before and after the projects are complete. The scope of our works is usually additions of a couple of bedrooms, living area, bathroom/kitchen and outdoor entertaining. I’d assume that it would take between 20 mins – half hour prior to the project starting and maybe up to an hour after the project is complete" Sounds cool, interesting and possibly will lead to other work. My only concern is that I only have a Canon 50mm prime F/1.8 lens and a Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 lens. I'm just thinking that a wide angle lens would be more appropriate for this type of work and want to know if anyone has any lenses they think would be suitable. I may buy if the price is ok (the gig will hopefully pay for some of the lens) otherwise I'll just rent one. Cheers for any advice! |

The Tokina is a lot pricier for Canon for some reason, but if you go to a shop to try it out first, you'll fall in love. If you go with something else, I'd say stay around that 11-16mm range. Good luck! |

Meanwhile - I'm in over my head trying to work out how to quote them. Here is some more info that will help with my next query; "We would require images on a disk – mainly for use on our website and internal display – with scope to use in our advertising. The main reason we are looking at this now is that next year i’m looking at advertising a 4 page spread in the Scoop WA’s best homes (a very well known housing magazine here in Perth), aswell as using it in our yellow pages ad." The only thing I'm stressing over now is what to charge. Should I charge per house (to include before and after) as they will potentially have up to 15 houses in the next 6 months? Does the fact they will be using some of the pictures in a magazine affect things (or is that only when a company wants to use shots you've taken previously, not when they've hired you for that direct purpose).... I don't want to undersell myself but at the same time don't want to scare them off. The company is owned by my friends' father so want to give them a good deal without me not getting paid what I deserve. I know its a loaded question with so many variables but I'm going mental trying to nut out how to approach this. Cheers! |
