The bulbs you bought were probably lower, around 3,000-4,000K. Lower mean yellow/orange, higher is bluer.

If you use a regular bulb, I'd put it in a dome with a piece of tracing paper or some other diffuser over it so it's not so harsh. The other thing you could try is putting a gel over the flash (if it came with any) to make that light closer to whatever you have around. Probably easier to go for the daylight bulbs though.

Edit: Here ya go! A little pricey, but much brighter than what I have and rated at 5,000K
That is a similar to the bulbs i'm considering, thanks for the advice, now if only i could work out how to keep my kids still long enough to take a pic.

Got my new camera yesterday and thought I'd take it to the park and get used to it.

Yet another dragonfly.

I stopped getting the notification emails for this thread for a while. Really great shots.

Just some from July 4th and my cousin's dog.
Also I know now a tripod is a must and makes the fireworks look better. The first 2 are with, the last 2 without.

While sailing around on my yacht yesterday, I decided to do a little snorkeling, and came across some interesting ocean life.

OK, I took my kid to the aquarium. But it was fun, and the look on his face when he'd see the fish was priceless.

[quote=Lambboy;438938]Went to the zoo today. Weather was perfect and the animals were all very active and lively. I went with an old friend and we walked the entire thing. It was a good day.

Thanks. I had it at about f6.3 or f8, manual focused just short of infinity, ISO 100, bulb mode for shutter, focal length 17-50. I only took a few with the tripod(you can tell because the firework streaks are very straight and look better) because they were so close(20' ahead of me, 20-40' up) it was hard to frame them so I started shooting them hand held.

Here's a link to my Flickr set if you want to see more and look at the exif data to see specific shutter speeds etc. July 4 2010 - a set on Flickr

Been messing around in the kitchen. I didn't quite get the image i wanted with the diffusion one, i was trying to recreate something i saw in work but all i had was Worcestershire sauce and no food colourings. the other was done whilst holding a sweet wrapper over the flash.
